Our National U19 Rugby participated in the Powersales Rugby festival which was held on Friday 6th April 2012 and Saturday 7th April 2012. This is an Annual U19 Tournament hosted by Matabeleland Rugby Club in Zimbabwe and named the Powersales International Rugby U19 Festival. The Festival was hosted at Bulawayo and games took place on the Hartsfield Stadium. The Festival was well organised as it has been in the past years. The team was accommodated at Christian Brothers College (CBC) where they were also given breakfast and supper for the duration for the tournament.
This Festival had two categories for both the U16s and U19th but Botswana was only represented in the U19 category. Botswana played Milton College on Friday and Christian Brothers College on Saturday in the main match of the day.
|Date||Team A||Score||Team B||Result|
|Friday 6th April 2012||Botswana U19||20 - 16||Milton||Win|
|Saturday 7th April 2012||Botswana U19||13 - 13||CBC||Draw|
This is a good sign that development is in the right direction. In both matches the team came from behind to win and draw their matches respectively. The team only conceded two tries in the two matches.
A lot of credit must be given to Kaelo Mogotsi (Captain) and Gape Malesu (Vice Captain) who led by example on and off the pitch. This indeed went a long way in helping the management team manage the players.
The team is currently busy preparing for the upcoming COTTCO festival which will be held in Harare, Zimbabwe from the 30th of April till the 5th of May 2012. The team will depart from Botswana on Sunday 29th April and will return home on Sunday 6th May 2012.
